SDG Impact of Settings & Infrastructure Programs

Example

Description:

Imam AlKadhim University College (IKU) has implemented a variety of infrastructure development and environmental management programs that directly contribute to achieving and supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These initiatives reflect the university’s strong commitment to sustainability, inclusiveness, and environmental stewardship across all campuses in Iraq.

  • Construction and renovation of campus facilities following green building principles, emphasizing natural lighting, ventilation, and the gradual integration of solar panels to promote renewable energy use.
  • Increasing the coverage of landscaped and planted areas to improve air quality, reduce heat islands, and support local biodiversity.
  • Installation of environmentally friendly and accessible sanitation units, including waste separation bins, to encourage hygiene, inclusivity, and recycling practices.
  • Development of pedestrian walkways, ensuring a safe, walkable, and low-emission campus environment.
  • Design and adaptation of learning spaces and public areas to ensure accessibility for all individuals, including persons with disabilities.
  • Engagement with governmental bodies, municipalities, and environmental organizations to enhance the university’s sustainable campus master plan and align it with Iraq’s national green policies.
